Hygge Burst Hexie Blanket Pattern x Geode Collection by Hue Loco Yarn

The original Hygge Burst Hexie Blanket Pattern encompasses all the warmth, coziness and happiness that you can get from a blanket. I wanted the same feeling with this pattern—but brighter and fun for spring and summer. This particular collection is extra special to me. I love the Geode theme and the colours are absolutely gorgeous. They’re bright, pastel colours but with warm undertones that are perfectly wearable and make beautiful home accessories. Because of this, I chose to join my blanket with a brownish-grey colour that really brings out the earthy qualities of this collection.

I hope you love it! Happy crocheting everyone :)

Nature’s Palette Hexie CAL | NautiKrall Crochet x The Creative Knitter (2024)…

For the last 2 years I’ve signed up for a year’s worth of yarn. It’s called a “monthly yarn subscription” consisting of 12 months of surprise skeins in the mail. Each month I crocheted the skeins into a Granny Stripe Blanket (1st year) and for the past year I’ve been making a granny square blanket from the “Year of Surprises Blanket Pattern” — this year I’m doing it again!!

You see, I thought I would try and make myself a temperature blanket. I started, stopped, amended, started again…and again…and again….

Eventually, after trying and failing to decide which kind of pattern I wanted for my temperature blanket, I decided it was way too big of a commitment for me (with the amount of other things I usually have on the go). But, I still liked the idea of a “yearly” blanket…. cue: the yarn subscriptions.

I discovered the idea of the yarn subscription sort of by chance—but loved the idea way more than a temperature blanket. Surprise, hand dyed merino wool in the mail…every month!?!?! -Sign me up!!

Island Time Scarf -Free Crochet Pattern

When I started thinking about making another Island Time Shawl….I knew I wanted it to be a bit smaller (and more wearable with a heavy winter coat), solid coloured and well….I quickly realized I didn’t want a shawl. What I wanted, was a scarf! Hence, the last free pattern of the year: The Island Time Scarf Pattern. It’s wide enough for full coverage, long enough to wrap twice, and finished off with the sweetest triangular bottom and pom. It’s all about the details :) I chose to make mine monochrome—but the colour options are endless. It’s definitely a pattern I’ll be coming back to again and again.

So, grab your favourite DK weight yarn and lets get started!!

Special Edition Basic Sunburst Pillow Pattern

Something I get asked often is: “Do I have to use JAYG (join as you go) or CJAYG (continuous join as you go) to join my squares?” The answer? -No! Of course not, there are many beautiful ways to join squares! This pillow pattern is meant to encourage those who haven’t made a pillow yet to try (because the above-mentioned methods may seem intimidating to first time crocheters). These squares are just slip stitched together and the result is a perfectly squishy pillow you can feel good about. Not only are the colour options endless-the sunburst squares always fill me with joy. Work them up solid coloured for an easy, carefree crochet experience OR change up the colours each round and create a multicolored masterpiece— just like the timeless granny squares Nan used to make :)

Hygge Burst Hexie Blanket Pattern

Hygge (pronouced “Hue-guh”) is a Scandinavian word meaning everything that is cozy, happy, special, warm and nice. It’s used as a noun, a verb and an adjective! I fell in love with the idea of hygge after reading The Little Book of Hygge: The Danish Way to Live Well by Meik Wiking.

The original Hygge Burst Blanket Pattern encompasses all the warmth, coziness and happiness that you can get from a blanket. I wanted the same feeling with this pattern—but brighter and fun for summer (hellloooooo neon tweed!!) Rest assured, this won’t be the last colour combo I put together for this blanket. It was a blast to make and I absolutely cannot wait to put together a colour scheme using Wool of the Andes Tweed for autumn :)

For now thought, I hope you’re all loving the light-hearted colour combos of these Hexagons. Happy crocheting everyone :)
